His Workmanship

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

When I was about five years old, my dad started a church in a small town in Tennessee. When I was about twelve, we built a building where our church could meet. The church purchased some land that was suitable and my dad looked it over and chose a spot where the building could stand. He began to make sketches and try to imagine just exactly what our church would need for a place to hold services. He took those sketches to an architect who created the plans to which the builders would refer as they worked to complete each phase of the project. I had the opportunity to help as the men of the church and the contractors and crews that we hired worked together to build the new building. Over many months, the building project went from sketches, to blueprints, to groundbreaking, to leveling, to foundations, to concrete, to blockwork, to trusses, to roofing, to brickwork, to framing, to plumbing, to wiring, to sheetrock, to finishing, to painting, to carpet, to furnishing, to decorating, and eventually to the dedication service. Finally, we were able to use the building for the purpose for which it was created! Paul said that we are God’s workmanship. There was a picture in the mind of God of what we would be like and what we could accomplish for Him. With that purpose in mind, God created us in Christ Jesus to do those good works. Let’s be sure that we spend time working for Him today!
