God Has a Plan

“And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.” Exodus 12:17

In some ways, the Passover could be considered the central theme of the Old Testament; and because of its abundant symbolism pointing to Christ as our Sacrificial Lamb, the whole Bible seems to revolve around its significance. It is interesting to see that God gave clear and specific instructions to Moses regarding the establishment and perpetual observance of this annual feast even before the initial event took place.

When Moses first returned to Egypt, there was a great deal of excitement among the Israelites about the prospects of being freed from slavery. Pharaoh’s harsh response to Moses’ first meeting with him changed all of that. From that moment, the children of Israel doubted whether or not Pharaoh would ever release them. It seems that there were times when Moses’ faith was weak as well. However, when we read this passage, it is obvious that God had a plan all along, and He knew exactly how everything was going to play out. When Pharaoh agreed to let the people go during each plague and then changed his mind after it was lifted, God was never surprised. God knew that this was the last plague. He knew that the people would be set free, and that this was the time to give these instructions. He has a plan for your life, too. Trust Him!
